The Schwarzman Scholarship is considered one of the most prestigious scholarships in the world and supports around 150 outstanding, international students for a one-year Master's programme in Global Affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. The scholarship holders receive comprehensive financial support for tuition fees, accommodation, catering and travel expenses, as well as a mentoring programme and language courses.

FS student Franz Richard Hohmann is one of the selected scholarship holders. He will complete his Master's degree in Global Affairs at Tsinghua University from August 2024 to June 2025. The curriculum aims to analyse leadership characteristics from interdisciplinary perspectives and in multiple cultural and professional settings. In addition, it is complemented by a variety of electives in areas such as economics, finance, public policy, and global affairs.

Throughout his studies, Franz has worked on developing his leadership skills. For example, he co-founded and led the student initiative FS Asia Society, founded and managed a real estate company, led running groups with more than 100 participants during his exchange semester in Hong Kong, developed his skills as a spokesperson through Toastmasters International and pursues a law degree at LMU Munich alongside his Business Administration studies at Frankfurt School, consistently excelling in both programmes.

"As Schwarzman Scholars, it is our duty to step up, take responsibility, and help the people to lend a helping hand each other. In times when respect for one another dwindles and communication efforts wane, Schwarzman Scholars might have never been more important than now. Hence, I strongly encourage everyone to apply for the programme and give back to the global community,” says Franz about the scholarship.

To be considered for the Schwarzman Scholarship, applicants must have an outstanding academic record and leadership qualities. They must also have a strong interest in international relations and understanding global challenges. Applications are made through a rigorous selection process that attracts candidates from all parts of the world. Applicants must submit their CV, two essays, academic transcripts and references, letters of recommendation, an application video, and answer to several questions in the form of a short essay. After reviewing these, selected applicants will be invited to personal interviews.

The Schwarzman Scholarship is more than just financial support — it is a unique opportunity for emerging leaders to broaden their intellectual horizons, build global networks and prepare for a future characterised by international collaboration and understanding.
